Winter Hair Care Tips

It's that time of year again. The nights are drawing in, the days are getting colder and chunky cardigans have become a daily essential. However, as we ensure our bodies are protected from the cold and our skin is prepped and ready for the change of seasons, sometimes it's easy to forget about protecting our hair. But don't worry, I've compiled a list of essential ways to protect your hair this winter....
Winter Hair Care Tips

Try using a hair mask once a week
Shampoo and conditioner might not always be enough when the cold hits. Your hair might need that extra care and attention in the form of a hair mask. Once a week, treat your hair to a deep moisturising hair mask to nourish your hair back to health. A hair mask is also essential for keeping the split hairs and frizziness in check, as the seasonal weather might cause extra damage.

Keep heat to a minimum
In the winter, it might be more tempting to grab the hairdryer once you've washed your hair to speed up the drying process. However, as you've probably heard before, heat causes damage and especially in the winter, therefore try and reduce, not increase the amount you use on your hair in the winter. Blow drying your hair can cause a 'flash drying' effect, which essentially means that not only does your hair dry quickly as the blow drying removes surface moisture, but also removes water that is bound to the hair. This can result in your hair becoming brittle, dry and rigid. The use of straighteners and curlers can also cause breakage and split ends, so try and not increase the heat, however tempting it might be!

Choose the right brush
You want a brush that is going to nourish and work its magic on your hair, not make things worse, therefore you should invest in a good one for your winter hair care routine.

You need a hair brush that suits your hair and will ensure it's looked after. Tangle Teezer have various brushes in different styles and for all different types of hair,  therefore I highly recommend taking a look on their website to find the right hair brush to get you through the winter.

Add a drop of Argan Oil
Argan Oil has been a life saver for my hair and I'm a firm believer that it's drastically changed the condition of my hair over the last few years.

Not only does it really nourish my hair, it helps to tame frizz and fly-aways, which get worse for me during the colder months. Argan Oil is essential for your winter hair care routine as smooths frizz, promotes a healthy shine and helps repair split ends.

Other quick tips for your winter hair care:
  1. Keep washing your hair to a minimum. Washing your hair too regularly could result in it drying out. Try only washing it a few times a week to ensure it's in the best condition for winter.
  2. A tip that is essential for good hair care all year round - get regular trims! Aim for around every 6 - 8 weeks to reduce the existence of split ends.
  3. Invest in a good shampoo and conditioner. You want products that are going to keep your locks luxurious during the cold weather.
