We’ve all been there. You've settled down ready to watch a new tv series, you are nestled into your spot on the sofa with a cosy blanket and a good amount of snacks, but the next thing you know, you’ve been scrolling through Netflix for an hour looking for something to watch. I’ve been there many times and out of frustration, I've just ended up watching some weird documentary on Netflix instead.
But don’t worry guys, you’ll never be in that position again (unless you’ve already seen these, then try Google?) as I've put together a list of 5 TV shows that you can binge watch immediately. There all completed series you can watch from beginning to end with no distractions. Yes Netflix, I am still watching.
If you want a mix of comedy, mystery and drama than House is your best bet. Dr House (played by Hugh Laurie) is everything cliche about a character; he has a limp, he doesn't want to become close to anyone and he's insanely smart. However cliche he might be, Dr House is one of my all-time favourite TV characters.
More often than not, every episode is a new case and with the aid of his three assistant doctors he aims to solve a medical mystery surrounding an individual's illness. Every storyline is clever and it's not always straight edge as you think. House has an undeniable need to always be right and solve puzzles, therefore logic overtakes emotions, which causes tension with other doctors,
Aside from the medical mysteries, the characters are fantastically played and written. With character storylines played throughout, it definitely tugs at the hearts strings and I probably cry at almost every episode!
I'm sure you don't need any more reasons to go watch this show, it's completely amazing.
Another hugely popular show and one that took me a while to start watching. I watched the first season when it first started, however, it was only after all the seasons were released I decided to watch it properly.
It's a teen drama, which focuses on a group of teens who go to a fancy school and live a glamorous lifestyle. As lovely as their lives may seem, there's Gossip Girl who is revealing all their secrets to entire Manhatten. It's far-fetched, totally unrealistic and silly in some parts, but it is amazing!
You'll get obsessed with Chuck Bass and you will forever be hoping him and Blaire will end up together. Jenny will annoy you like any little sister would and you'll probably want to punch Venessa in the face once or twice, basically you get completely and utterly invested in these kids lives and there's no way around it.
It's full of drama, a bit of crime and heartfelt moments. It's another series that you can binge watch as it's such easy viewing and insanely enjoyable.
I think the OC was the first TV program I watched religiously box set to box set, without having the awkwardness and frustration of having to wait a week to watch the next episode.
I remember the first episode I watched and where I was (if that doesn’t sound insanely sad that I don’t know what does). It was a random episode in Season 1 with Paris Hilton co-starring in it. It was also shown on T4, which I still miss dearly still to this day. Being around 13 at the time with no Amazon account, I begged my mum to buy me the first series, then consequently I ordered the next few boxsets as quick as I could get my hands on them.
The OC was the first teen drama that I loved and I still think to this day, no other boxsets come close. It’s hilarious, it’s full of drama and there’s Seth Cohen! What more do you want?! If you’re unfamiliar with the OC then
where have you been here’s the low down.
Ryan Atwood has it tough and after getting into a spot of bother, he needs a lawyer, Sandy Cohen to help him with a court case. After helping him regarding his family and general life trouble, Sandy agrees to let Ryan stay with the Cohen family. Seth, Sandy's son is nerdy, a social outcast and becomes a bit cooler when Ryan comes along. Consequently, they meet girls (Summer and Marissa) get into a bit of trouble and just try and finish high school.
Like I mentioned, there’s a ridiculous amount of drama, plenty of characters to love and hate and it's just an all round amazing series. Also, don’t be put off about what people say about season 4 I personally loved it!
There’s so many reasons why this is a perfect binge watch box set, however, don’t let me keep you by rambling on about it. Go watch it yourself!
Making of a Murderer
You've probably have heard lots about this series already. For those who haven’t, it’s a crime documentary series surrounding Steven Avery. After being wrongly convicted of rape and spending time in jail, he brings a lawsuit against the police and county due to their wrongdoings in the investigation Months later, a young woman goes missing and the police arrest Steven and his nephew Brendan. There’s a huge conspiracy about whether or not he committed the crime. Whilst the police and prosecution strongly believe that the evidence is too strong to not convict him and his nephew, they proclaim their innocence. It is soon revealed that evidence may have been tampered with, the police interview strategies were unlawful and the crime just didn't add up.
If you’re into crime documentaries then this is a must watch. With phone recordings between family and the convicted, police interview tapes and videos from the courtroom, you'll find yourself trying to solve the case yourself and essentially shouting at the television hoping someone will listen to you! I honestly sped through this series, it’s gripping and it’s definitely a series you can binge watch on a weekend.
I started watching Dexter very, very late. My best friend was telling me for years to give it a go and I was just like ‘nah, it sounds silly’. But I did eventually and granted it took me a few episodes to get into, but when I did, I was obsessed.
Dexter is a serial killer, but he also works for the Miami Police department as a phlebotomist. His rule is that he only kills the people who deserve it e.g. the bad people to satisfy his urges, but he won’t kill the good. However, in the series, there are different crimes along the way that need solving for the Miami Police department that Dexter can't help but get involved in. There's also many gripping storylines with other members of the police department including his sister Deborah. This show is gory, there’s a lot of death and blood, so this might not be for you if that isn’t your thing. But if it is your thing, what are you waiting for?!
This is such a great binge watch series. For starters, there are 8 series to get your mitts on (what a treat), they’re all on Netflix (even better) and the main character is kind of cute (sold).
Have you seen any of these shows before?
What series would you recommend?
