It's happened. It's finally happened - I purchased something from MAC and not just anything a MAC lipstick. I've read many many reviews over the years about these little beauties, but I've never given in to the temptation of buying one. It's the price tag that has put me off from buying a MAC lipstick and I was worried that it wouldn't live up to the hype. I've had this lipstick since Christmas and I'm still not 100% sure about it - here's why...
The joy I felt when I picked this up with my Christmas money on Boxing Day was insane. I was also persuaded into buying a lovely lip liner along with this lipstick which I will review at a later date.
I chose the shade 'Sin' which is a beautiful dark red/plum shade. I love wearing dark and bold lipsticks and this is one of my favourite shades I own. I'm trying to get as much wear of the colour as I can before it comes unacceptable to wear such a dark colour in Spring/Summer. There's not one fault I can find with the colour and it's so easy to build the colour up or have a slightly softer look. To give you more of an idea of the colour I was recently called a vampire on a night out recently when I was wearing this, that's the kind of vibe this lipstick gives you!
I knew before buying this that this was matte lipstick - in fact it was what I particularly asked for when the sales assistant was helping me pick something out. What I've found with this lipstick is that no matter how much I exfoliate and use lip balm on my lips, it really dries my lips out. It seems to wear off quite quickly and leaves an ombre effect on my lips which is obviously not the desired look! If your lips are even a little bit dry - this lipstick will emphasise it.
I should be put off by this, but I'm not completely yet. Its combination of the beautiful colour, the pigmentation and it is really long lasting (the part that hasn't rubbed off anyway). I'm not sure I'd repurchase a matte MAC lipstick again, but I've not given up all hope on MAC just yet. There's plenty of other lipsticks which are slightly more creamy and I'm hoping to find the perfect dark, berry shade sometime soon!
