I mentioned a couple of posts ago that I've been trying to wear purple lipsticks rather than my reds and pinks I wear every day. I recently added a new one to my collection when I had the opportunity to pick a few things from Born Pretty to review, however this time I decided to try this Born Pretty lip gloss...
Let me make one thing clear, myself and lip gloss haven't gotten on in the past. To be honest, I'm not sure that we ever will. It's the consistency and the shine that I'm really not a fan of. However, after realising I haven't tried or bought a lip gloss in a very long time, my dislike for the stuff might just be from a bad experience I had when I was young. To my surprise, this isn't a lip gloss at all. Granted when you first apply it to the lips it has a slightly sticky consistency, but very quickly it drys and leaves a matte finish. I would compare it closely to the MUA Velvet Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquers.

After a few minutes on the lips, not only had the lip gloss gained a matte finish, but it became very drying on the lips. Very drying. It became impossible to rub my lips together as all the moisture was gone. It isn't a nice feeling at all and after about an hour or so of wearing it in the day time, I had to remove it as it was irritating me.
I was disappointed in the overall feel on the lips, as I absolutely adore the colour and the finish! It was difficult to get the exact colour in this photo but it's a quite bright lilacy/pink. I don't own anything like this, so I was really taken by it. One of the things I love about the colour is that it's really bright and I would say, slightly florescent. It would be perfect for me in the Summer or on night outs. I think I could look past the the texture and feel the lip gloss leaves on my lips if I was wearing it for a short period of time or for certain things. For example, I'd still definitely wear this for a night out, but wouldn't pick this for a day time look.

Overall, I was slightly disappointed with this product. It was not exactly a lip gloss like I was expecting and when the product was on my lips, it made my lips feel unbearably dry. However, I love the matte finish and the beautiful colour, so I will just have to wear this on certain occasions. You can buy this Born Pretty lip gloss for $2.99 from here.
